Park the vehicles side by side and open their doors. Mark the space for people carrying bags, walking to the house and reaching the rear of each vehicle before you choose the roof size.
Rehearse a normal parking day
Park your vehicles in the intended arrangement and mark the outside envelope. Open doors, the trunk and any tailgate you regularly use. Show where you walk toward the house and where passengers wait. If one vehicle is larger or leaves more frequently, give that routine priority in the sketch.
Try the same exercise with a guest vehicle or a future replacement in mind. Ask for that extra space as a separate option on the quote.
Account for posts and edges
Ask the supplier to show post locations and the usable space between them. A roof dimension and the clear parking area underneath it are not the same measurement. Mark where posts meet door-opening paths and the route from the driveway into each bay.
Discuss roof drainage and where water will go relative to walking routes. If you want protection along the sides, describe the goal and have the supplier review the appropriate enclosure options instead of assuming an open roof provides the same shelter everywhere.
Compare two arrangements
Draw side-by-side parking and a tandem option if the lot permits both. Compare everyday access, the route to the house and which vehicle would need to move first.
